Most of Slovenian people immediately associate Gorenjska with Triglav, a majestic mountain with three heads. For us, Triglav is much higher than in reality. Something like that must have influenced Julius Kugy, who wrote these words: Triglav ist kein Berg, Triglav ist ein Reich. This magnificent mountain with 2864 meters of height above sea level and unique geographical position has big symbolic and also uniting meaning for Slovenians. It is also featured in Slovenian coat of arms.

Protected area of Triglav National Park (TNP) extends from the valley of the Soča River to the Gornjesavska dolina valley, and from Bled to Bohinj. Total area of the park is more than 800 square kilometers (the central area has 550 square kilometers). Triglav is not the only high mountain in the park. It is accompanied with several other high peaks: Škrlatica ? 2740 m, Mangrt ? 2679 m, Jalovec ? 2645 m, Razor ? 2601 m, and so on. TNP is also a source of many streams and rivers. Between ski jumping center Planica and skiing resort Kranjska Gora, there?s a spring of Sava Dolinka River, official spring of the river Sava. Other clear river, Savica, springs in the valley of the seven lakes of Triglav. It flows through the Lake Bohinj, where it is renamed to Sava Bohinjka. Both, Sava Dolinka and Sava Bohinjka, join at the town of Radovljica, and then continue to flow onwards as Sava. We should also mention three valleys, which start nearby Mojstrana ? Vrata, Kot and Krma ? and they end deep between the mountains. The most visited is Vrata valley with Aljažev dom resort at the end. This valley is also a starting point for expeditions to northern Triglav?s rock wall, the third highest wall in Europe, with 1200 meters of height.

Not far away from Mojstrana, a stream Radovna flows parallel with Sava Dolinka and splits wooded plateaus Mežakla and Pokljuka. Then it turns east, past the Lake Bled and through the Vintgar gorge into the river Sava. We don?t have to waste words for what Bled with the island in the middle of the lake and the castle means to Slovene people. Most of them would probably list Bled as the most beautiful place in Slovenia. But not only because of natural attractions, but also because of the greatest Slovenian poet, France Prešeren, who admired Bled as a child from his own home in Vrba. Vrba is today a starting point of the last part of the highway, which leads past the largest city in Zgornjesavska dolina valley, towards the Karavanke tunnel and Austria. Iron industry is still present in Jesenice, except that chimneys don?t emit clouds of dense red smoke anymore.

<img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-385" title="Pohorje-jezero" src="http://www.sloveniaholidays.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Pohorje-jezero-300x225.jpg" alt="Rogla"width="300" height="225" />This is a place where there is something new added each and every year. This touristic town is consistently in a process of construction it has been that way for about 30 year. Rogla gives so many choices for accommodation. There is even a regular bus line, which leads to Zreče which is a very famous place, because of its beautiful spa resort and wellness equipments that are being offered in its recognized hotels. It gives you a choice of a great number of possibilities even if it?s just for daily walks around viticulture areas or if it is for some visits to local attractions.

Rogla since 1997 has also been an Olympic center, where a good number of winter lovers find a lot of quality skiing and at 1500 meters above sea level they will also see a fully-equipped health resort, recreation center, and more. They hosted the Women Ski World Cup which is an annual Golden Fox event this place is very famous for that sport.

Pohorje is said to be one of the most attractive place in Slovenia. That is located on the south-west side. Its main attraction is the Zreško Pohorje with Rogla, and on the other side the Mariborsko Pohorje with Areh and Bolfenk.

Rogla is one of the highest mountains that is in Pohorje.

Rogla is not a too rich in the wellness that it offers, but it definitely has more possibilities to recreate compared to others. They have created many organized paths, which make Nordic walking, hiking and mountain biking possible in a 50 kilometers long area in Pohorje that is immediate vicinity for hotels there where there is a breath taking lookout tower.

It?s normal for guests to arrive by car or by any kind or transportation though its fine to just arrive by foot. Whatever it is that the guests prefer when he or she comes there will always be a place for him for there is more that 1000 parking space here. This is definitely a good place for action and relaxation so make sure that you put this place in your top 10 places to go this year!

Alpine hills can compete with Pohorje in size itself, but Pohorje is more attractive for many guests, due to its lower altitude (up to around 1600 meters above sea level) and less difficult paths, and besides that, it has more developed touristic offer. Three big sports recreational centers with more and more visitors each year are located in Pohorje. These are Rogla, Mariborsko Pohorje and Kope. Everywhere you can stay in hotels or touristic farms. In winter you can enjoy skiing, snowboarding and sledding, and you also have plenty of possibilities for active vacation when there?s no snow.
Pohorje is divided into several areas, like Zreško Pohorje, Mariborsko Pohorje, Hočko Pohorje and so on. These areas are differently developed, which is consequence of different connections with good economical cities nearby in the past. That?s why the most developed touristic centers are in Mariborsko Pohorje from the hotel Habakuk at the foothill, across Bolfenk to Areh and in the surroundings of Slovenske Konjice across Zreče with thermal spa resort and up to Rogla, which has many ski slopes, cross country ski tracks and winter-summer sports center with fields for different sports.
Accommodation in touristic farms on Pohorje and its surroundings is getting more popular each year. The number of touristic farms is increasing, as well as their equipment is getting better. Guests can enjoy delicious traditional cuisine and rich wine offer. Especially different sorts of white wines are produced in this region. Some owners of these farms let you help them with their everyday work, for example taking care of domestic animals like horses, cows and goats. You can also help with other farm work, for example wine growing and fruit growing tasks and hay gathering. Of course you can also just enjoy deserved free time and go for a bike ride, explore different footpaths, go boating, horseback riding or go to take some photos of the unspoiled nature.
There are many natural attractions in Pohorje, for example lakes like Črno jezero, Lovrenška jezera and Skalce waterfall, especially interesting are waterfalls veliki and mali Šumnik in the middle of unspoiled nature, in Pohorje jungle.
Pohorje is worth visiting in every part of the year, of course it is the most magic in nice weather. Spend some days in clean nature, full of possibilities for different adventures, take advantage of sports infrastructure, relax and enjoy your perfect vacation.

This event is already like a tradition in Planica for it has been in existence for 75 years and it is being highly recommended by the country?s Tourist Board so if you would want to go somewhere make sure that that place is highly recommended by an entity that is recognized for you to not lose your money..

Just To give you a bit of information about Planica. It is a valley of ski-jumps that is beneath Ponce and when it?s time for winter to say goodbye. This place honors the world ski jumping kings and queens, with all her natural elegance and beauty. The entire event lasts for three complete days. More than 100,000 visitors come to watch and cheer and be entertained by the brave jumpers during this time of the year.

This exciting event will most likely start on the road, which will lead to the final destination at dawn, to the dangerously narrow entrance and then into the beautiful valley. The people from outside Planica visitors, like pilgrims, have slowly approached the joy and life changing experience of ski jumping. A record breaking number of fifteen hundred of them are ready and equipped with their accordions, and they are all ready to play Planica?s famous song. The bests and the gurus of ski jumping in exchange for the people?s warm welcome gives people back their best. They would seek the longest flights and jumps or they would attempt the best stunt that has ever been done. Maybe something that would be the first jump that would surpass one hundred and ten meters and that would be the best that has taken place in Planica, just like the first jump done that was over two hundred meters. These and more are possible because the world record of 239 meters by Bjoern Einar Romoeren has already taken place here? You have to be there for the next one or you will miss half of your lifetime.

Bled is a village in north-western part of Slovenia. It is well known by the lake with the same name (Lake Bled). The lake is special because of a beautiful island on it. That is why many people say it?s like heaven ? beautiful lake with clean water all around you, you (possibly with people you love) driving on your boat, looking at an island with beautiful church and a cloudless sky above you if you are lucky.

<img src="http://www.sloveniaholidays.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/bdb23e18a21bf1521.jpg" border="0" alt="Bled"width="413" height="277" />

The main tourist attraction is of course the lake. It?s up to 2 km long and 1,3 km wide. Maximum debt of lake is 36 m. In the summer time the lake temperature can reach 25 °C, so it is possible to swim in it. Even in autumn, lake temperature stays rather high, so it is usually possible to swim in Lake Bled until the end of September.

There are many options for you in Bled. The best and also the most romantic one is to rent a boat and paddle on the island (boats with petrol engines are forbidden). If you don?t want to paddle, several gondolas are carrying passengers on the island (they are cheaper than boat rentals, but you probably won?t be alone there). When you are on the island, I suggest a slow walk around the island ? it?s even possible to swim when you are on the island. Quick look in the church from 17th century is advisable as well.

<img src="http://www.sloveniaholidays.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/e66b3d810140eeb21.jpg" border="0" alt="Bled"width="421" height="315" />

Bled isn?t all about the island. I suggest visiting the Bled castle and those of you who like to walk might want to take a walk around the lake (approximately 2 hours easy walk). For golf enthusiasts is also taken care of. Moreover, Bled is famous for traditional Slovenian dessert ? the cr?me slice (locally called ?kremšnita?).

Over the whole year, Bled offers tourists and local people many festivals with different topics, such as music and movie festivals. Usually festivals start at the evening and last all night.
Accommodation in Bled is not a problem ? there are many hotels with different offers and prices. Some of them even have their own swimming pools (for those who don?t like to swim in lakes).

When you are in Bled, you might want to see another lake nearby. Lake Bohinj is only around 20 km away from Lake Bled. Lake Bohinj is the biggest permanent (we have one bigger lake but it doesn?t have water whole year) and natural lake in Slovenia. Lake Bohinj is a part of Triglav national park (TNP).

At the end I would like to warn you about prices in Bled. Because of many tourists and all the fancy glamour some services might be expensive ? for example meals in fancy restaurants can cost quite a bit, and high star hotels are also quite expensive. So, before you go anywhere, ask for the pricing list if you want your holidays to be budget friendly. Of course, boat rentals, museum tickets and other things fancy tourist aren?t interested in, have more budget friendly prices.

Pohorje is one of the most attractive destinations in Slovenia. On south-west side, the main attraction is Zreško Pohorje with Rogla, and on east side Mariborsko Pohorje with Areh and Bolfenk.

Rogla is also one of the highest mountains in Pohorje, which generally reaches height from about 1000 to 1600 meters. Rogla is 1517 meters high, and after it is also named a touristic town.

The touristic town is in a process of construction for about 30 years, and there is something new added every year. Currently, they are building new family hotel, and before there were built hotels of different rankings, bungalows and apartments. In the immediate vicinity there are also more and more touristic farms. Also Zreče, smaller town at the foothill, through which leads an asphalted road to Rogla, offers many possibilities of accommodation. There is regular bus line, which starts in Slovenske Konjice.

<img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-287" title="rogla-izlet" src="http://www.sloveniaholidays.org/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/rogla-izlet-1024x768.jpg" alt="Pohorje"width="491" height="368" />

Zreče is generally very popular destination, since there is a great spa resort and wellness offer in recognized hotels. It offers a lot of possibilities for daily walks around viticulture areas, and some visits of local attractions.

Rogla itself is not very rich in wellness offer, but it has more possibilities for recreation. There are many organized paths, which enable hiking, Nordic walking and mountain biking around 50 kilometers long area of Pohorje. In the immediate vicinity of the hotels there is also a lookout tower.

Walks are also popular in winter months, as well as skiing, cross-country, sledding, boarding, snowmobile driving and many other activities. There are 10 skiing trails of different lengths and levels of difficulty in Rogla. Beside ski trails there are also chairlifts, which take skiers back to the top in no time. Also tracks for cross-country skiing are well organized. They are together long almost 30 kilometers.

At the high altitude, good athletes like to prepare themselves for hard following seasons. So in Rogla, there are outdoor and indoor sports fields (basketball, football, volleyball?), and also adrenaline sled track next to them.

You can come in Rogla also on foot from almost any direction, but most of the guests come by car, motorbike, bicycle or bus. There are more than 1000 parking spots, so there won?t be any troubles looking for a parking spot, even for the daily visitors, who come only for a walk or skiing in the winter, as well as for those, who want to spend relaxing or active vacations here.

Slovenian mountain passes are getting more and more popular among tourists because of beautiful views and intact nature at their fingertips. They are easy accessible and the roads are well maintained. Slovenian mountain passes are interesting for bikers, motorcyclists, car drivers and even for many campervan travelers searching for some thrilling drive. So I decided to present some of the most famous Slovenian mountain passes to my readers (you) to help you decide which one is the most suitable for you.

1.) Vršič

Vršič pass (?Prelaz Vršič? ? 1611m) is a mountain pass in the Julian Alps in the northwest of Slovenia. It is the highest mountain pass in Slovenia and also the highest mountain pass in eastern Julian Alps. Vršič pass is important because it connects Kranjska Gora (Slovenian ski resort) with Trenta Valley. The road was built during the First World War for military purposes and was opened in 1915. It was built by Russian prisoners (Russian Orthodox Chapel can still be found there). The pass is opened in spring, summer and autumn. It is usually closed in winter time because of bad road conditions and the danger of snow slide.

Vršič, as a part of Triglav national park (Triglavski narodni park), is also a great starting point for the visit of surrounding peaks, such as Mala and Velika Mojstrovka, Prisojnik, Šitna glava, Planja, Sovna gora ?

Take a look at panorama of Vršič (Text is in Slovenian language, but pictures are more important).

<img src="http://www.sloveniaholidays.org/wp-content/uploads/7ef062117d61572.jpg" border="0" alt="mountain"width="488" height="267" />

Vršič pass on road map

2.) Ljubelj

Ljubelj pass (?Loiblpass? in German) is my favorite Slovenian mountain pass. It is situated in the Karawanken (Karavanke) part of Alps, connecting Austria and Slovenia. It is 1369m high and was the steepest mountain pass in Alps (up to 28% incline) before 1945, when the tunnel was built. The tunnel was built by war prisoners during Second World War.

Ljubelj had an important role before 1991, when the Karawankentunnel was built, as it was the best connection between Yugoslavia and Austria in the northwestern part. It is still a great alternative to Karawankentunnel in spring, summer and autumn as a route with great view (you save ?6.5 because you don?t have to pay Karawankentunnel ). It is my favorite pass because it possible to sledge there in winter on a settled route.

<img src="http://www.sloveniaholidays.org/wp-content/uploads/c8aef0d7bd7badc.jpg" border="0" alt="mountain"width="512" height="279" />

Ljubelj pass on road map

3.) Predel

Predil pass (?Predel? in Slovene, ?Passo di Predil? in Italian) is interesting due to its rich history. It is 1156 m high mountain pass, connecting Slovenia and Italy. The mountain pass was used in Roman times and in Middle Ages by merchants as an important trade route. One kilometer before summit stands a Fortress Predel, which had an important role in the defense against Napoleon.

<img src="http://www.sloveniaholidays.org/wp-content/uploads/fb41fffa1b1b938.jpg" border="0" alt="mountain"width="477" height="259" />

Predil pass on road map

4.) Jezersko

Jezersko pass (1218 m) is very popular among motorcyclist because of the road with a lot of thrilling curves. It links Slovenia and Austria and is rarely closed in the winter. It?s gently sloping on the Slovenian side, but is very sleep on the Austrian side.

Jezersko, a village 7km from the Slovenia-Austria border, is a great starting point for the mountains in the surroundings. A trip to Planšarsko jezero (Planšar Lake) is also recommended.

<img src="http://www.sloveniaholidays.org/wp-content/uploads/43baaeaa02ae7f1.jpg" border="0" alt="mountain"width="461" height="254" />

Jezersko pass on road map
